Belfast, North Ireland– Devoted boxing fans endured heavy rain as they witnessed hometown favorite Carl “The Jackal” Frampton defend his WBO interim featherweight world title against former Olympian Luke Jackson, earning a victory by way of TKO as Jackson’s corner threw in the towel in the ninth round to save their fighter from taking more punishment.
In the previous round, Frampton (25-1, 15 KOs) sent Jackson to the canvas with a massive body shot that clearly left the Aussie hurt. The Irish champion used his instincts to launch to his opponent immediately, but failed to finish him off in that round as the round finishing bell rang before he could do more damage.

“The Jackal” dominated and outclassed Jackson (16-1, 7 KOs) with superior speed and timing since the opening bell, landing the better of the punches in the middle-of the-ring exchanges. Jackson showed heart and determination as he kept coming forward, regardless of the hard shots Frampton expertly landed.
Before the sixth round, Jackson asked his corner what round it was, which was the first sign a stoppage was likely if Frampton continued to dominate. In minute 1:29 of the ninth round, Jackson’s corner threw in the towel as Frampton pummeled a disoriented Jackson.

Following Frampton’s sensational performance, fans speculate a fight with undefeated featherweight Josh Warrington (27-0, 6 KOs) would be made next by promoter Frank Warren, who promised the fight would definitely happen this year. In his last bout, Warrington scored a split decision victory this past May against Lee “Lighting” Selby.
Other fans entertain the idea of a third fight with Leo “El Famoso Terremoto” Santa Cruz for Frampton to avenge his only loss. However, let’s not forget WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez’s former trainer Manny Robles expressed interest in Valdez fighting Frampton following his victory over Scott Quigg. Because Valdez has now switched trainer’s to Eddy Reynoso, it is unknown if Valdez will have a tune-up fight to test new adjustments to his style as well as to test his healed jaw.
Following Tyson Fury’s ten-round dominant performance against Francesco Pianeta, WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder joined Fury and Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren in the ring to announce a fight between Wilder and Fury was official.

Immediately after the announcer announced Fury (27-0, 19 KOs) as the unanimous decision winner, Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs) allowed Fury to parade his WBC heavyweight title around the ring before exchanging knockout threats. Though no official date was announced, the fight was announced to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Boxing fans may criticize Fury for going the distance against a lower-tier opponent; however, Fury stated post-fight his motive was to get rounds in before getting in the ring with Wilder. Pianeta (35-5-1, 21 KOs) showed the determination not to be bullied by the lineal heavyweight champion but fell victim to the height and reach advantage of Fury, who used his jab to maintain distance successfully in the entirety of the fight.

The hearts of most the fans at Windsor Park shattered as Nicaraguan flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales made his first successful title defense by defeating former two-time Olympic bronze medalist Paddy Barnes with a brutal right hook to the body that immediately sent Barnes to the canvas.
Both flyweights traded massive shots in the first three rounds, giving the fans an exciting performance as they roared at any punch Barnes landed successfully. In the fourth round, Rosales (29-3, 19 KOs) delivered a crippling right hook to Barnes (5-1, 1 KOs) body which sent him to squirm like a salted snail on the canvas. The referee waved off the fight after Barned failed to get back up after the count.
Retaining his WBC Flyweight title puts Rosales in the eye of the boxing enthusiast and draws more attention to the flyweight division. Through Twitter, Rosales sent Barnes “get well” wishes while also thanking God for his victory.
